September Family Resource Highlight

This month's family resource highlight is centered around inclusive play spaces and events in San Diego. Inclusivity and accessibility allow for everyone to utilize outdoor and recreational spaces regardless of their abilities. Here are some local opportunities for accessible play!

Play My Way San Diego 

• Adaptive recreation center located in Mission Valley, fully wheelchair accessible and inclusive for ALL

  • includes: swings, climbing wall, trampoline, sensory play, small child area, calming zone and reading nook, comfortable parent lounge (with view of play areas), art and STEM sessions

• They offer various month to month memberships for unlimited play sessions per month with 1 free guest pass

  • Membership options for adding a sibling, family packages for 3+ kids, or supported memberships with 1:1 session with a play coach

• Play my way is a vendor of San Diego Regional Center! This means they can offer services in the form of monthly memberships through SDRC funding. Contact your service coordinator for more information! Having therapists join in on play sessions is welcomed. Normal charges apply for kiddos but therapists can tag along for free.

City of San Diego Therapeutic Recreation Services 

• Provides sports, recreation, leisure, and outreach services to people of all ages with physical, emotional, or mental disabilities.

• Fall 2025 activities include garden to table meals, garden club, family campfire, turkey trot, fall festival, holiday cookie baking, spooky movie night, drive through trick or treating, playdays on select Sundays, adaptive sports (ages 8+), and MORE.

• Beach wheelchair program: beach wheelchairs or Access Trax (which allow individuals to use their personal wheelchair on beach) available at no charge to individuals with mobility impairments.
