About the Course

Proper positioning and support for a child in an education or community environment is crucial to learning and development. There is a variety of mobility devices to choose from. Attendees will gain a better understanding of what equipment is available and how to better make decisions on when and what type of equipment is best for their patients. This course will review the differences between wheelchairs and strollers and when to choose one over the other as well as what components to choose. We will discuss what type of power mobility is available and when power mobility is appropriate. On the second day we will review the basics of other pediatric equipment including standers, gait trainers, and walkers. This course will review the evidence behind why standing and independent mobility are so important to promote physical, cognitive, and emotional development in children. Measurements needed during an equipment evaluation will be discussed.

Trial equipment will be available to see and test out during the course.
